Massage for Back and Neck Pain

Carrying heavy weights every day, lifting while bending incorrectly, and carrying weight asymmetrically can all increase the risk of back, neck and shoulder pain and joint problems.

If you have pain in your back, shoulder or neck there are several types of massage that will help. The most common type of massage is Swedish Massage, otherwise known as massage therapy. Massage therapists apply an oil or a lotion onto the skin and then use long smooth strokes to promote pain relief.

Another option is deep tissue massage which is an excellent remedy for chronic tight or painful muscles, postural problems, and repetitive strain injuries. This intensive massage targets the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissues. There may be some discomfort during the massage and some soreness for a few days after the massage.

Shiatsu is a form of Japanese massage where the person remains fully clothed during the shiatsu treatment. So, it is excellent if someone prefers to remain clothed (as many people do) during a massage. Finger pressure is applied to specific areas of the body giving a deep massage.

Pilates along with massage might also help relieve muscle tension and improve strength and flexibility.
